Mission Statement and Values:
Nevada's Act of Random Kindness Charity (NARKC) is a 501 (c)(3) domestic hunger-relief, and economic development public charity. NARKC provides social change services in the state of Nevada and Texas. Our Texas chapter is Texas Act of Random Kindness Charity (TARKC). Believer's of Andrew Carnegie's ideology, our mission is to temporarily aid families while training them how to help sustain themselves for the long term. NARKC is an “improving” organization. NARKC focuses its charitable efforts on improvement. We understand that fishing lessons only help those with access to the pond and ladders are useful only to those with climbing skills. Determined to make a real change in society, NARKC's focus is not just giving handouts, but changing a family's condition all together, for the long term.
There is no better way to state the mission of NARKC then by the famous words of Andrew Carnegie:
In bestowing charity, the main consideration should be to help those who will help themselves; to provide part of the means by which those who desire to improve may do so; to give those who desire to rise the aids by which they may rise; to assist, but rarely or never to do all.
How many Charities are in Nevada and Texas?
According to the latest stats from the The National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS), there are 453 Nonprofit Organizations in the state of Nevada and 19,621 in the state of Texas specializing in, “Human Services”. Of these 20,074 nonprofit organizations majority of them focus their services under food banks and soup kitchens, where their recipients come to their organization on a monthly to daily basis for food to eat for their families, occasionally bathing and if they can fight for a bed to sleep, just to return the following day or month to do it all over again. The service is built on dependency and recidivism, no true way to escape the cycle.
How does NARKC differ from these Charities and what does NARKC provide to the community that other Charities do not.
Most of these charities are charities that solely specialize in temporarily sheltering and feeding homeless low-income families, such as Three Square, Feeding America, Salvation Army and Southern Nevada Catholic Charities. This is great, there are times when this focus group needs immediate food and help. But that can’t be the end. The drawback with this type of assistance, which is a major one…this focus group will always be in the position of needing more assistance to eat and a place to sleep. The recidivism is built into these types of charities aid and services. The individual who received that type of aid, typically never becomes a functioning part of the community and society because he or she is always in the taking and receiving position. He or she is incapable of giving back to the community and most times not by choice. NARKC differs from most charities because our focus goal, from the start is for all NARKC recipients to end with being able to sustain themselves. NARKC gives recipient knowledge through occupational training (Ex.: P.O.S System, retail and office training), opportunity and support from the beginning to the end. The "NARKC Hull House" , is a place where preparation, personal responsibility and opportunity ensures sustainability.
How does NARKC/TARKC secure its own future and ensure that it will succeed in its specialty programs.
If any business expects to become successful they must have help. Help, everyone needs help. NARKC/TARKC has networked/partnered with like charities to ensure that we succeed in this program (Dress for Success, Job Connect, etc.) That we succeed in training thousands of Nevada and Texas citizens how to sustain themselves (job training, education/degree completion assistance, etc.) Because you can never have to much help, NARKC/TARKC is continuously looking for more and more networks to help us succeed in helping others
